Overview

GitHub’s brand, content and corporate marketing teams are responsible for the stewardship of GitHub’s world renowned brand - executing global campaigns, producing our marquee events, and cultivating some of our most engaged platforms and channels.

We are looking for a Senior Brand Designer to guide the ideation, creation, and direction of impactful graphic design across multiple digital, event, and OOH platforms. The ideal candidate will work intimately with our Brand and Marketing Design team to create (and/or oversee) visual assets and campaigns for GitHub’s developer, enterprise, and internal (“Hubber”) audiences - to ensure consistent, on-brand, and uniquely “GitHub” executions.

Collaboration and asynchronous collaboration is the key to success in GitHub’s globally distributed, remote-friendly environment, so excellent verbal and written communication is a must. Besides the close alignment with our Brand and Marketing Design team, you’ll partner closely with our content team and product marketing, film, and marketing stakeholders to produce impactful design solutions.

What we value:

Senior Designers at GitHub are expert individual contributors; they are given a lot of autonomy and trust to work on our most impactful projects. For this specific role, we're looking for someone who values the following:

  • Systems thinking: Our team has to apply decisions holistically, making sure to look at new patterns in context to the larger system of the brand and design system.
  • Inclusive design: GitHub is a home for ALL developers and our design systems should reflect that. This means designing for inclusivity, including input and consideration for people with a range of perspectives and abilities.
  • Progress and impact: We are solutions-oriented and prioritize progress over correctness when it's the right call.
  • Candidness: We encourage candidness and recognize its role in building trust. It can take time and effort to get there, but it's worth it. Making decisions for projects, design patterns, and processes will yield better results when we can get to the “real talk”.
  • Wit and Whimsy: We take our work, our customers, and our product very seriously - we focus on attention to detail and excellence in execution - but we love an inside joke and a wink… we don’t take ourselves too seriously.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the VP of corporate marketing and other design, marketing, and business leaders to execute a cohesive vision for the future of GitHub’s brand, campaign, events, social, and visual strategy.
  • Create design assets for GitHub campaigns, programs, events, blog, social media channels, branded merchandise, and/or internal “Hubber” communications that reinforce GitHub’s value and brand, while driving business KPIs.
  • Partner intimately with the Brand and Marketing Design team to use, contribute to, and evolve GitHub's design system and brand guidelines to ensure consistency across all platforms.
  • Develop graphic assets that leverage patterns, illustrations, iconography, and motion guidelines in lock-step with our overall design standards.
  • Guide and art-direct third-party contractors and agencies to produce inspiring, on-brand, world-class work.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand the business need and translate goals into effective design work.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • At least 8 years relevant experience in marketing, communications, branding, design, or other related fields
  • Ability to guide contractors and/or agencies to create high-quality, impactful and on-brand work.
  • Proficiency working within established design and brand systems and the ability to oversee large, complex design projects while simultaneously executing tactical assets.
  • Proven competency in data-driven design, testing and optimization.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A portfolio that demonstrates masterful understanding and application of layout, color, and typography in both digital and (at least one of the following) experiential, print and/or OOH.
  • A strong body of brand and/or marketing design work that tells a compelling and consistent story about a product, business, or initiative.
  • Experience with GitHub or similar software platforms
  • Experience in fast-paced environments and an ability to estimate, balance, and adhere to complex (and occasionally competing) timelines and work on multiple projects at once.
