Introduction

Overview

Okay you've impressed the recruiter during the interview, the next and final step is to negotiate your strong offer. 💰This module covers strategies for negotiating effectively, understanding your worth, and setting the stage for a successful career start.

👉 Well, you might have guessed it: The preparation for the negotiation is probably the most important part! As you will most likely be nervous you tend to make mistakes. The better you prepare the stronger your position will be. 💪 So don't underestimate Preparation! Here's a famous quote - "You don't get what you deserve, but what you negotiate!" and this is 100% true.

Lesson 01

Understanding Your Market Value

Before entering any negotiation, it's essential to know your worth. 💰 This is where you can leave a lot of money on the table. Take the time to research the typical salary ranges for your role in the creative industry, considering factors like your experience level, geographic location, and the company's size.

⚠️ You can utilize resources like PayScale and Glassdoor to gather this information. 🚨 It's worth to look at competitors of the company too and see if you find a different salary range and keep this as an argument in your back pocket. 💲 If you have very little experience you can still be ambitious and aim for higher goals than advertised and be vocal about it (ie. if the postion is a working student design role, search for a Junior Designer salary and let them know you would like to level up after a certain period 🔝)

Understanding your market value will give you the confidence to negotiate effectively and ensure you're being compensated fairly for your skills and creativity. ⏰ Seriously, take the proper time to know what an appropriate salary for the advertised job in that given company looks like. We have made the mistakes ourselves and regretted it ever sincem, as we undervalued ourselves.

🎯 Set clear salary goals for yourself. This will help you keep track of your targets during your job search and negotiations. Document your salary goals in your job planner and/or career 👀 vision board.

Lesson 02

Negotiation Techniques

Negotiating an offer is an art in itself. 🤝 You might need to discuss not only salary but also benefits, project roles, and creative freedom. Develop a clear list of your negotiation priorities and practice articulating why these elements are important for your creative process and career development. 👉 Learn to communicate your value convincingly, discussing how your creative skills will benefit the company.

👁️ Role-playing negotiation scenarios with a mentor or friend can be really help you to refine your approach and strategy. We have gathered a couple of tricks how to be a strong negotiator 💪 as well as questions and how you can answer these to restate your position. Well, you know what to do now - go out and practice! It won't hurt to watch some Youtube tutorials on your body language during interviews too.

Lesson 03

Handling Job Offers and Rejections

Whether you're accepting an offer or dealing with a rejection, professionalism is key. 🔑 If you receive an offer, express your gratitude and enthusiasm, even if you plan to negotiate some terms. If you're faced with a rejection, respond graciously, thanking the interviewers for the opportunity and expressing your interest in future possibilities.

👉 You never know if there isn't another opportunity in the future. Maintain a positive relationship with the potential employer. It certainly helps to practice responses for both scenarios so you're prepared to handle these conversations with poise. ❌ If faced with a rejection don't be afraid to ask for reasons and whether they have any feedback to share with you that you could learn from.
